Parental Involvement

Research continues to show a direct relationship between parental involvement and levels of excellence in education. Pilgrim has a strong tradition of welcoming parents and church members into a variety of volunteer positions. Pilgrim is a better school because there are helpful parents on site at virtually all times. Sign up to be a volunteer.

There are a variety of opportunities at Pilgrim for parental involvement and support including:

Teacher Aide

Duties and time requirements vary from classroom to classroom. Usually requires a commitment of 1/2 to one hour, one day a week. This is in-room help, assisting students with classwork, checking homework, etc.Sign up to be a volunteer.

Teacher Clerical Aide

This is help outside the classroom, performing tasks such as copying, filing, etc. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Computer Education Aide

Under the direction of the technology coordinator, parent assists students in computer work. 1 hr. per week. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Library Aide

Working with half the class at one time, parent assists children return library books and select new ones. In lower grades, volunteer also reads aloud to students. Time commitment is 1/2 hour, once a week. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Parent Patrol

Pilgrim Lutheran School Art Project

This requires a time commitment of just 20 minutes once a week. Volunteers ensure that all unaccompanied children are off the school property or sent to the after-school program by 3:10. They may also be asked to assist principal in keeping traffic moving. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Pediculosis Inspector

Volunteers check children's hair for pediculosis (lice) once a month for approximately 1 1/2 hours. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Preschool Lunch Monitor

Two volunteers are needed in the preschool/kindergarten lunchroom to monitor and assist children while they eat. A 1/2-hour time commitment once a week, this opportunity allows the preschool and kindergarten teachers their only break of the day. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Art Smart Leaders and Assistants

Art Smart is a new program combining art appreciation with hands-on art activities. Currently offered to grades PS through 3, each monthly session introduces a featured famous artist. Children view his or her work, learn about technique, and create their own piece of work in a similar style. If you're interested in helping out with Art Smart, you may volunteer to assist the presenter at any session. Volunteers work with children and/or presenter, do research or perform other support duties. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Schoolroom Lunch Assistance

You may choose to serve as lunchroom monitor or kitchen worker. Monitors help maintain order in the lunchroom. Kitchen workers help the lunchroom manager prepare and serve lunch. This position requires 2-1/2-3 hours or time. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Field Trip Assistant

Volunteer does not transport students, but monitors and directs children in small groups when away from school property. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Field Trip Driver

Volunteers must be registered with the office (to ensure driver is licensed and insured). Sign up to be a volunteer.

Health Records Aide

Pilgrim Lutheran School Art Project

This person goes through health records, prepares notices for parents if anything is missing, and makes sure everything is in order per state requirements. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Scout Leader

There are currently five troops of Girl Scouts meeting at Pilgrim. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Property Upkeep

Twice a year, volunteers are needed to give the school a thorough cleaning. Duties vary widely. In addition, volunteers do routine repair and maintenance work. Sign up to be a volunteer.

Room Parent

Each classroom needs one or two parent volunteers to plan school parties and the annual auction project.

Parent Teacher League

School Board

In October the School Board begins the process of selecting and appointing members for the coming calendar year. The Athletic Director and PTL Chairperson are automatically members of the Board. Other At Large Members are appointed. Membership includes both parents who are and who are not members of Pilgrim congregation. Parents interested in joining the Board or wishing to nominate others for the Board are invited to contact the School Board Chairperson. Board meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month (September through May) and are open to the public. Refer to the School Board section of the website for more information

Marketing Committee

Members strategize on methods for increasing enrollment, and represent Pilgrim at annual school fairs.

School Development Committee.

This committee is involved in grant writing, fund raising, and other development activities.

Auction Committee

Members plan the school's largest fundraising event of the year. Duties include developing theme, choosing the venue and food, and soliciting donations for the event.

Hot Meals Program

Nine teams of five or six volunteers prepare healthy lunches for the homeless. Time commitment is approximately three hours once every nine weeks.
