Covenant of Conduct
In order for the Pilgrim Lutheran School and Board of Childhood Education to deal effectively with issues in the school, the following guidelines are to be followed.
- All members of the Pilgrim community affirm their right to express their opinions about the life and ministry of Pilgrim School.
- The School is governed by the Board of Childhood Education and the Pilgrim Church Congregational Council. These governing bodies encourage individuals to share their opinions directly with the pastor, principal, staff, Board of Childhood Education and Congregational Council.
- When members of the school community express an opinion to a member of the Board of Childhood Education, the board member shall ask, “What would you like me to do with this information?”
- In the event that such information presents imminent harm to a child, family or the school community, the board member shall report that information directly to the principal, pastor and/or board chair in a timely and confidential manner.
- If the individual desires to have the information transmitted to the board, the individual shall be invited to bring the information/opinion to the next board meeting. The time and date shall be given.
- If the individual does not wish to appear in person, the board member shall ask the individual for permission to use their name in reporting. If permission is not given, the board member shall say, “I’m sorry but I will not be able to report this to the board since the board does not discuss anonymous letters or comments.”
- If permission is given, the board member shall report the information/opinion to the board and use the individual’s name.
- At his/her discretion, a board member may ask that the member refer this issue to another board member for presentation.
- Each issue shall be placed on the agenda and written in the minutes along with the action taken by the board. Action may include: “Received as information,” “Principal or Pastor to visit individual and report at next meeting,” etc.
- Opinions may be shared in writing with the board and shall be handled in the above mentioned manner if the letter or statement is signed.
